The NCL, Inc. Willow Rose Chapter has 170 members from the Willow Glen, Silver Creek and surrounding San Jose neighborhoods. Our girls attend area schools including St. Christopher’s, Presentation, Valley Christian, Mitty, Willow Glen HS and many others.
We are honored to support 13 philanthropic organizations located in San Jose, contributing 3,000+ hours to our local community each year. The charities we support are:
- American Cancer Society
- American Red Cross
- Guadalupe River Park Conservancy
- History San Jose
- JW House
- LifeMoves (formerly InnVision)
- Project Linus
- Sacred Heart Community Services
- San Jose Women’s Club
- Sunday Friends
- Via Services
- Willow Glen Community and Senior Center
Our members have the opportunity to participate in wide variety of activities at these different charities, as mother/daughter teams, individually, or as a grade level Ticktocker class. Some of these activities include pruning roses and other gardening work at the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, participating in holiday shopping sprees for Sunday Friends, volunteering at day camps for children at Via Services, and cooking and serving meals to families of children who are facing medical challenges at JW House.
Several times a year, our Chapter comes together to participate in special group events. Our Philanthropy Fair in September is an opportunity for our members to learn about the philanthropies our chapter serves, and to work together on various projects.
Each January, we participate in our National Philanthropy Initiative where our Chapters across the nation work on a philanthropy project benefitting the organization.
Leadership is learned through member involvement and job experience in NCL. Mothers model leadership in their NCL jobs, and Ticktockers learn valuable leadership skills throughout the year by participating in their meetings, activities, event planning, record keeping, managing finances, and other responsibilities.
Each spring, we come together to celebrate our hard work and accomplishments at our annual Mother-Daughter Tea and Awards, which is a time-honored tradition of all National Charity League chapters. Additionally, our graduating Senior Ticktocker class is recognized in March at our annual Senior Recognition event. Other cultural opportunities such as plays, ballet performances, museum excursions, and various other social opportunities are offered as well.
